Why join the Committee?
Volunteering and being part of a committee is a great way to broaden your experience with ARA, raise your profile and make a significant contribution to the work we do as a Committee. This role can develop your skills in event management, planning, and broaden your professional network and knowledge as you connect with speakers and train members across the (heritage) world.
As an existing member, your experience and ideas for what you and others may like to see, will be valuable in informing our work and activities!
What will be required of me for the Joint Training Officer Role?
You will work with the wider Committee - the Chair (Chloe), JTO (Ben), and the Comms Officers (Marie-Claire and Anna) to plan, coordinate, deliver and gain feedback on training programme for the International Section. This includes identifying training needs and opportunities for the International Membership to develop a training programme, organising and training events (formal/informal) within budget, and connecting/liaising with speakers to support arrangement for the training events.
How much time would be required?
For the role you would spend no more than 1-2 hours for dedicated training activities (halved, if as the role is a job share), to assist in the lead up and delivery of training events. As a Committee member you also need to attend bi-monthly committee meetings to provide verbal/written updates, and attend the Annual Review Meeting once a year (where members are officially (re)elected onto the Committee. Occasionally there will be other work supporting other international events and meetings, such as attending the quarterly ARA Officers’ Forums.
I am interested in applying for the role, what next?
We are keen to hear from anyone who is interested across the sector or our global membership.
Step 1: Write and submit a Expression of Interest to international@archives.org.uk This should be a short statement (max 1 page of A4) explaining why the role interests you and outlining your interest in the International Section and ARA activities, and how you would manage your time in supporting the International Section committee activities alongside your usual existing time commitments.
You can also email us with any questions for our Chair and our current/outgoing JTOs to answer.
Step 2: Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. If successful, you will be co-opted to the Committee straightaway and then elected at the AGM for three-year term.
If required, the deadline for applications may be extended.
Step 3: The Committee will provide a full handover, and this will be supported mainly by the current and outgoing Training Officers
We look forward to welcoming you to the Committee or seeing you at a future event!
