Chair/Co-Chair - ARA Environmental Sustainability Group
Chair/Co-Chair - ARA Environmental Sustainability Group
The Archives and Records Association’s Environmental Sustainability Group is seeking a new Chair or a Co-Chair to lead the committee and help shape and deliver the group’s activities. This is a voluntary role, offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to climate action within the archives, records management, and conservation professions while developing leadership, strategic planning, and advocacy experience.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading quarterly committee meetings and Research Officer meetings, ensuring the group’s work is effectively coordinated and progressed.
With the Secretary, preparing meeting agendas and overseeing the delivery of actions arising from meetings.
Providing strategic direction for the group and supporting the development of priorities, projects, and partnerships.
Acting as the main point of contact for the group and supporting committee members in their respective roles.
Supporting the Events Officer in the organisation and delivery of group events, such as online training sessions, talks, and collaborative initiatives.
Supporting the financial and strategic management of the group, including authorising expenses and liaising with the ARA where required.
Representing the group within the wider ARA and advocating for environmental sustainability across the archives and records sector.
About you:
We are looking for someone who is organised, collaborative, and enthusiastic about environmental sustainability in the archives sector. The ideal candidate will be a confident communicator who enjoys working with others and helping to guide projects and initiatives forward. Experience chairing meetings, coordinating projects, or supporting committee work would be advantageous, but enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to contribute are most important.
You must be a member of ARA to apply.
Role sharing:
To support a smooth handover, this role can be undertaken as a shared Co-Chair position for an initial period, allowing the incoming Chair to work alongside the current postholder and build confidence in the role.
Time commitment:
The role involves the organisation and attendance at quarterly online committee meetings and occasional additional time to support events, communications, and strategic planning activities.
If you’re passionate about sustainability and want to help the archives and records sector make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.
To apply:
Please send an expression of interest (up to 300 words), outlining your interest and experience to ARAenvironment@archives.org.uk.
For an informal discussion of the role, please contact Georgina Robinson at En.Chair@archives.org.uk
