Community Conversations: Makiya Davis-Bramble talks to Elizabeth Oxborrow-Cowan

Makiya Davis-Bramble talks to Elizabeth Oxborrow-Cowan about working in the archives sector as a black person.  She shares her own experience and gives guidance on how to create a welcoming and inclusive workspace for people of different ethnicities.

As part of the work of the Diversity Allies, Elizabeth Oxborrow-Cowan has undertaken online interviews to explore the experiences of people from different backgrounds in their engagement with the archive sector from a variety of perspectives. In this conversatoin she talks to Makiya Davis-Bramble about her time working as in archives as a person of colour. There’s some real insight into how it feels to be in such a situation and some candid advice about how to make people feel welcome.

In the other interview we learn from the archivist Steven Jaffe and a donor about the Belfast Jewish Heritage project and approaches to collecting from a specific community.
