Across these two sessions we will hear four different perspectives on the challenges and opportunities presented by audio visual collections (the first session is on the 7 July)

14:10 - Wessex Film and Sound Archive (WFSA): making audio visual collections work, Zoë Viney, Curator of Film at the Wessex Film and Sound Archive
Zoë will introduce some of the engagement projects that she has been involved in at WFSA that seek to engage and broaden audiences; she will discuss some of the challenges and opportunities this can present – including storage and accession of archive film, rights and permissions.

Will will present a short, practical introduction to understanding and preserving your sound collections, however large or small, new or old, whatever your initial level of knowledge.

THE SPEAKERS
Wessex Film and Sound Archive (WFSA)
Zoë Viney is Curator of Film at WFSA, based at Hampshire Record Office in Winchester where she has been in post since 2016. Her post is funded through the BFI, awarding National Lottery funds. In her role at WFSA Zoë’s primary focus is on audience engagement, and outside of work she is undertaking a PhD at the University of Southampton that looks at gender and class in the amateur film collection of WFSA.
The British Library
Will Prentice is the Training & Dissemination Manager for the Unlocking Our Sound Heritage project at the British Library, where he has worked in sound preservation for over 20 years. He has served on the Technical Committee of the International Association of Sound & Audiovisual Archives (IASA) since 2007, and as Chair of the IASA Training & Education Committee between 2018-2021. He is a Trustee of the EMI Archive Trust.
