Luke Mayo

‍ ‍

Luke has been a long-standing archives and collections volunteer with the Essex Police Museum since September 2018. He has undertaken numerous forms of record-keeping in this capacity, including work with databases, exhibits and photographs collections, ensuring all are documented effectively.

One of Luke’s key, ongoing projects has involved digitising the museum’s collection of records of service for retired personnel, both officers and staff. By scanning in these physical documents to the museum hard drive, they can be made available to members of the public with an interest in researching local, policing or family history. This highlights the value of Luke’s work in documenting the history of Essex Police.

Luke has also undertaken transcription work, typing up written records owned by the museum. These documents include police notebooks, history notebooks and other booklets that relate to the force’s history. By transcribing these documents into editable format, they are made more accessible for public consumption.

Volunteering for the museum is something that Luke has spoken about passionately, which has been noted on social media for Volunteers Week. His passion for record-keeping is reflected in the years Luke has dedicated to the Essex Police Museum.
