Luke Mayo
Brief outline of career to date, experience and why the nominee is deserving of this award:
Luke has been a volunteer archivist for many years, with a strong interest in and passionate dedication for record-keeping. He is a long-term volunteer archivist with the Essex Police Museum, which he began in September 2018 and continues currently.
Luke has undertaken numerous record-keeping tasks during his time with the museum. His most significant project has involved scanning the records of service for former personnel, of which there are several hundred. Digitising the collection enables ease of access for visitors of the museum who are keen to learn of the history of Essex Police, especially regarding people they know who have served on the force (e.g. relatives, neighbours). This is why Luke’s job is so important, and why he approaches his best effort to it.
Other tasks done by Luke have involved transcribing police notebooks into Word Document format, again for ease of access and to digitise history. Luke has previously served as a volunteer at other record-keeping organisations, such as Suffolk Archives and Essex Record Office, all of which have enhanced his deeply-felt passion for archives in all their forms.
