Contract – 12 Months Fixed-Term - Part time

Hours – 21 hours per week

Full Time Salary: £39,754 to £43,188 per annum.

Actual Salary (Pro-rata): £23,852 to £25,913 per annum

Location – National Museums Collection Centre, EH5 1JA

About the Project Archivist role: 

This project role offers an exciting opportunity for an archivist with an interest in the fashion industry to work in a museum setting. As the Project Archivist for the Jean Muir archive collections, you will be cataloguing, arranging and rehousing the variety of records in the archive. This work will directly inform the development of a major upcoming exhibition on British fashion designer Jean Muir and her contemporaries.  

The role is based at the National Museums Collection Centre as part of the Library & Archives team including collaborative work with curators, conservators and data and digitisation specialists across the Museums.  

This is a fixed-term, part-time post, for 12 months, funded by an ‘Archives Revealed’ grant. 

As a Project Archivist at National Museums Scotland you will: 

  • Catalogue, arrange and rehouse material in the Jean Muir archive collections to ensure their accessibility and findability for internal and external researchers.  

  • Promote the use of the Jean Muir archive collections for public engagement, specifically for inclusion in a significant upcoming exhibition on Jean Muir and her contemporaries.  

  • Support workflows around the digitisation of material in the Jean Muir archive collections. 

  • Work with colleagues across the Museums, particularly in curatorial, conservation and collections data and digitisation teams. 

Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Project Archivist: 

  • A post-graduate qualification in Archives Management or equivalent experience 

  • Excellent ICT skills, including use of collections management systems 

  • Excellent organisation and project management skills 

  • Experience with applying current archival cataloguing standards.
