About the Project:
We are seeking 2 Archivists to catalogue and begin the digitalisation of the Archive for the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The Archive is made up of several archives that have come together, whilst records exist, this project seeks to ensure all records are added to the Axiell system. The Archivists will also identify key areas of the Archive that will be digitalised first. This is an 18-month project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF).
They will report to a project manager and be supported by the existing team and volunteers at the Royal Greenwich Heritage Trust, who manage the Collection.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead on the cataloguing of the Archive onto Axiell system, delivering the project and ensuring accuracy.
Develop and deliver a digital archiving framework aligned with UK archiving standards (e.g. The National Archives, Archives Accreditation Scheme).
Ensure legal and ethical compliance in all aspects of digital preservation, including copyright, data protection (GDPR), and consent.
Support cataloguing of newly generated materials (oral histories, photographs, multimedia) using appropriate metadata standards.
Advise on sustainable storage and access solutions for long-term preservation and public use.
Maintain clear project documentation and contribute to evaluation, impact reporting, and NLHF requirements.
To work effectively with the team at RGHT and volunteers.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Professional qualifications in Archives and Records Management or demonstrable equivalent experience.
Understanding of cataloguing systems
Strong working knowledge of digital archiving, digital preservation standards, and UK legal frameworks.
Experience of cataloguing and metadata schema relevant to community and digital archives.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and project management skills.
