‘Professional Registration Surgery’
This is the second in our series of Professional Registration Surgerieswhich will take place throughout the year. Our aim is to support membersenrolled on their chosen programme, as well as those interested in howprofessional registration may help their career development.
Our next ARA Together call will take the format of a Professional Registration Surgery. The call will take place on ARA's Together Online Community at 4pm on Wednesday 21st July.
ARA professional registration is a key milestone in your career. It demonstrates that you have reached the highest standards of knowledge and competence and are committed to maintaining that competence through CPD and reflective practice.
We offer three levels of registration; Foundation, Registered and Fellow. Enrolment is open to anyone working or volunteering in the archives, archive conservation and records management profession.

This surgery will be an open Q&A session and will cover, among other things, the following points:
- Foundation or Registered: which level of professional registration to apply for
- What experience can I use in my application?
- Hints and tips when complementing your competency forms
The call will be hosted by Chris Sheridan who works with the ARA’s Board to manage all aspects of the ARA's professional development, education and member development interests. This includes management of the ARA’s Professional Development Programme, the route to qualify as a Foundation, Registered or Fellow Member, and university course accreditation. Chris’ key priorities include apprenticeships, workforce strategy, promoting improvement and continuing professional development, and the development of the ARA’s membership offer.
Chris will be joined on the call by Charlotte Berry, College Archivist and Records Manager at Magdalen College, Oxford. As well as being an assessor and mentor for the ARA’s Professional Development Programme, Charlotte also currently chairs the ARA Section for Museums, is a fellow of ARA and was portfolio holder for the ARA’s CPD/Professional Development portfolio from 2016-2019.
