The Archives and Records Association (UK & Ireland) is pleased to announce the draft outline programme for the annual ARA Conference in Leeds from 28-30 August this year and the opening of bookings for those who wish to take advantage of the ‘early-bird’ special prices.
Attendance fees for #ARA2019 are the lowest since 2013, and we will have a record number of bursaries on offer, notably for colleagues in the public sector in the UK and Ireland. Look out for details of these and how to apply in the coming weeks.
See the Conference website - https://conference.archives.org.uk/ - for details of the draft programme and to register to attend. We will announce updates, including keynote speakers, in the coming weeks.
Another reason to visit the Conference website is a chance to see (or re-see!) the many sessions we recorded at #ARA2018 in Glasgow. There have been over 1,000 views so far. If you have not attended Conference before, it’s a chance to get a feel for what it covers and the stimulating experience it offers.
Conference theme – Recordkeeping 3.0
Our theme for Leeds 2019 is ‘Recordkeeping 3.0’ – so it is all about you, whether you come from a records management, archives or conservator background (or a mix of all three!).
Our goal? To equip delegates on the full spread of developments, ideas, innovations in records management, conservation and archiving to maximise their professional and personal development and their value to employers, users and clients. We aim to equip delegates to meet the many challenges facing recordkeepers at all stages of their careers and in their workplaces.
Building on Glasgow in 2018, there are three daily themes for Leeds 2019, so that you can enjoy a coherent programme if you’re only able to come for one day. The daily themes are:
- Our careers
- Our workplace
- Our profession
Each day, we will also have four daily streams of presentations, discussions, debates and keynote speakers. The four main streams are:
- Archives and records
- Information governance
- Media and digital
Woven into these streams will be ‘30-minute makeovers’, dedicated sessions on business records, and cross-sector collaboration (such as museums and archives). We will explore emerging and/or growing issues of interest, such as Blockchain, risk management, online learning, project management, apprenticeships, spontaneous memorials, volunteering, diversity and the latest in academic research from our colleagues in FARMER.
ARA members attending Conference will be able to book one-to-one professional development sessions to discuss their individual needs, goals and interests and how your association’s professional development programme can support you.
Within all this, we will not lose sight of why we do what we do: celebrating, understanding and exploring the record in all its shapes and forms.
And we will revisit the diversity goals embodied in Glasgow Manifesto from #ARA2018.
Having to say no…
The Conference committee has again this year had to choose a programme for the three days from an outstanding and highly-competitive field of proposals that came in. Regrettably, we were unable to accommodate every proposal to speak - around 60% of people will be disappointed – and the committee has notified individually everyone that submitted a proposal. If you were not selected this year, we very much hope that this will not deter you from submitting in 2020, when Conference will convene in Chester.
It will be fun, as well…
As pioneered by ARA Scotland for last year’s Conference in Glasgow, we are working closely with colleagues in the ARA’s Northern (England) region to ensure a warm, local welcome and introduction to the wealth of recordkeeping expertise in the region. And we will present this year’s ARA Excellence Awards, enjoy a gala dinner and do the ever-important catching up with colleagues and networking.
Book now before you forget!
