Approaches to Reopening training webinar - South East Region

  • Approaches to Reopening training webinar via Zoom on 23rd September 2020 (13.30-15.00)

This webinar will focus on how colleagues from across the archives sector have approached reopening services safely following Covid-19 closures.

    We will be joined by:

Oliver House, Superintendant, Special Collections Reading Rooms, Bodleian Library. Oliver's talk will be on the planning and management process associated with reopening the special collections reading rooms in the Weston Library following the coronavirus pandemic.

Svenja Kunze, Head of Archives, Hamburg Institute for Social Research. Svenja gives an overview of how the COVID-19 pandemic affected the archives and library of a social science research institute in Hamburg, Germany, and how - after “lockdown” in March 2020 - the gradual reopening to staff and readers was planned and implemented.

Justin Clegg, Special Collections Reference Manager, British Library. Justin will discuss some of the issues that the British Library faced as it tried to find ways of allowing its diverse audience of readers to access its atypical collections following guidance issued as a result of the COVID outbreak.

Jacqui Halewood, Principal Archivist and Luke Dady, Archivist (Public Services), Dorset History Centre. Jacqui and Luke will talk about the process they went through before re-opening, what their considerations were, how they would have to adapt the service and what their new limitations were likely to be; before then looking at how things have worked since they reopened, what has worked well, what has needed to be changed; before finishing off with their next steps and plans for the future.
