Data Wrangling with OpenRefine: A Collaborative Learning Event
Venue: InTuition House, 210 Borough High Street, London, SE1 1JX
Date: 14th November (1.30pm - 4.30pm)
Archivists and records managers are increasingly familiar with data wrangling - migrating it, mapping it, cleaning it, etc. – and with born-digital material this trend is only set to continue. For many, the tool of choice for such wrangling has long been Excel, but other tools are available and one of these is OpenRefine, http://openrefine.org/
This event is your chance to get to grips with the basics of using OpenRefine in the company of like-minded others. To take part, you must be willing and able to bring along a laptop with OpenRefine installed. Instructions for installing and downloading OpenRefine are given on this page https://librarycarpentry.org/lc-open-refine/setup.html. A sample dataset will be provided and shared on the day to help us work through things together, but installing OpenRefine on your own device will ensure that you can work on your own data afterwards to consolidate your learning.
Teas and coffees will be provided, but there is a small charge to help cover the room hire costs (£15 ARA members, £20 non-ARA members)
