Stay Engaged - ARA PDP

Here is an overview of CPD opportunities and suggestions for ways in which you can stay engaged and continue your professional development while working from home during this latest phase of lockdown.

Competency Framework

The Competency Framework is the essential career development tool for all those working and volunteering within the archives, conservation and records management sector. Use the framework to assess your own experience to date, helping you identify strengths, weaknesses and areas you would like to develop.

Each competency provides examples of how it can be achieved at any of five levels. This will help you explore options to build your level of knowledge through researching articles and information, training opportunities or perhaps additional experience through your current employer, or by volunteering.

Training and CPD events

COVID-19 has reduced the number of training and CPD events, but many have simply moved online. So, why not invest some time in thinking about your own development needs as this will help focus your efforts on research knowledge that is already available, as well as online training. Please visit the Stay Engaged – Learning Options page of the ARA Together web hub for more details of relevant opportunities.

Although the ARA was unable to deliver its 2020 annual conference, don’t forget that some sessions from the 2019 conference are available to view here.

Professional Registration

We’ve seen a 50% increase in the number of enrolments onto the ARA’s Professional Development Programme. As we continue to improve the resources and support available to candidates, now might be the time for you to consider applying for ARA professional registration? Please take the time to explore the programme and learn more about the benefits of qualification. You can also catch up on the latest blog posts on the Professional Development Programme’s blog.

Chris Sheridan, ARA’s Head of Professional Standards and Development, is happy to arrange phone/video calls with candidates and mentors to answer questions and ensure that the ARA is able to support members.
