ARA COVID-19 News and Policies

Here you will find an overview of the ARA’s response to COVID-19 and outlines the steps we have taken to ensure that we adhere to the latest government guidance during this pandemic.

The Archives and Records Association is the leading professional body for archivists, records managers and archive conservators, representing over 2,400 members across the UK and Ireland.

Following UK government advice, the ARA Office in Taunton is now closed until further notice. Our office team are working from home and aim to provide as full a service as possible during the normal working hours of 8.30am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday. All ARA events have been suspended until at least the end of July 2020, and all face-to-face activity, including training, meetings and our annual AGM have been cancelled. All those currently booked on training events taking place in May, June or July will receive a full refund. New dates for planned events will be advertised as soon as they become available. Members who have pre-booked travel for events are advised to seek refunds from the transport provider. If a refund is not possible, ARA will cover these costs.

Alternative arrangements for the 2020 AGM will be circulated shortly. This will be held online.

An additional special meeting of the Board of the Archives and Records Association will be held in May to review activities, confirm arrangements about the AGM and 2020 ARA conference, and monitor the impact of the lockdown on the ARA’s budget.

Please note that the ARA has postponed its annual conference, due to be held in Chester, England, between 2nd and 4th September 2020. The conference is postponed into next year, 2021, to a date to be announced. We intend to hold the conference as advertised with the same programme, subject to speaker availability, in 2021.

The Archives and Records Association sends it best wishes to all of our members during these difficult times.

Karl Magee, Chair, Archives and Records Association.
