Past events

On 20th of February, Hull History Centre hosted the first of three training events hosted for free by the ARA Northern Committee.

The event was made up of two talks from two information professionals with whom copyright is a fundamental key to their roles.

  • Arwen Caddy, the Library Manager from Hull based health sciences company Reckitt Benckiser presented an interactive session, reviewing copyright basics and encouraging attendees to consider the copyright they encounter all around them.
  • Victoria Stobo, Lecturer in Record Keeping in the Liverpool University Centre for Archive Studies,  'Taking a Risks-based approach to copyright infringements' which included tackling ‘orphan works’ and how they are a continuous problem in archive collections, especially with the loss of access to the EU orphan works exception and database through Brexit.

Both speakers then answered questions from the group to finish the session.

Following the copyright training session, there was a brief ARA North meeting, the minutes from which can be found here, along with the copyright speakers slides from the session.

The two remaining ARA North training sessions for 2020 are as follows:

  • Managing Volunteers training session by Caroline Williams @ Borthwick Institute, York – 21st May. Programme with booking details now available
  • Digital Preservation training session @ Durham County Record Office, Durham – 10th July. Programme in the course of arrangement
