Functions
The Council meets at least four times per year for approximately 3 hours. The meetings generally take place in London, in January, May, September and November.
The Council comprises of usually seventeen (17) elected officers and councillors. Councillors are thoughtful, intelligent, well informed, hard working, critical and demanding of elected officers and subordinate structures such as committees and working parties. These considerations should be taken into account when proposing candidates for election to the Council. The quality of the Council is primarily in the hands of its members, but it is also important for information provided to it to be full, balanced, accurate and timely.
Subordinate structures are given clearly defined terms of reference and areas of responsibility. The Management Committee monitors and coordinates the activities of the subordinate structures. The Management Committee also makes efforts to ensure that all necessary information is provided to the Council in advance of a meeting.
The constitution and procedures of the Council are governed by laws outlined in the Memorandum and Articles of Association and Bye-Laws, Articles 54 to 68. Last modified 18/04/2007
