A Brief Introduction to the SoA Research Fund

The funds are designated for archival research i.e. education, training, procedures, policies, accessibility, gather information and related subjects. The funds constitute the Society of Archivists Research Fund via The Research Sub-committee.

  • Applications for grants are considered twice a year - 1st January & 1st June
  • Money available for grants will be published annually
  • In exceptional circumstances The Research Sub-committee will consider a specific proposal

Applications will not be accepted from an individual, trading companies and solely commercial organisations but should be supported and presented by bodies ie public / charities / organisations, Society Groups, Regions or Committees, etc.

Support may be provided for up to 100% for applicants of £3,000 or less and up to 75% on all other applicants.

The Society of Archivists will be acknowledged visibly on all projects supported by the Research Fund including publications.

Applications must include:

  1. a summary of the project, including the amount of grant required from the Society
  2. a detailed description of the project and its context 
  3. a description of the benefits of the project 
  4. an operational plan 
  5. a budget plan, including other sources of income where appropriate
