"Celebrating Memory: An Oral History of the Society of Archivists and its members" was initiated in 1997 by the Film and Sound Group as its main contribution to the 50th anniversary of the Society of Archivists.  It was co-ordinated by Dr Craig Fees who was instrumental in its organisation and documentation, and to whom the main content on these project pages can be attributed.

The project is still ongoing and to date over 120 interviews have been conducted representing a wide cross-section of the Society and concentrating particularly on senior members who could recall the growth of the Society and the profession.

At the end of 2005, the tapes and transcripts compiled so far were deposited at the British Library Sound Archive.  The information collected forms a unique record of the history not only of the Society but also of the profession and is a vital resource for the future.

These web pages are based on those written and maintained by Craig Fees. They have been reproduced here by kind permission of the original author.
