Get ready for Curriculum for Excellence

Date: 26/03/2010 Type: Training This workshop is suitable for archivists, education officers and anyone involved in creating and delivering archive resources for teachers and pupils in primary and secondary schools.
It will provide the opportunity to:
Find out about Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) as it rolls out in Scottish schools in August 2010. Find out about the new learning experiences and outcomes. What do they mean for archives? How can we support these new developments in education? Find out about Best Practice in teaching Scottish history in schools Take part in practical workshops to create and present your own resources to support CfE Discuss ideas and exchange information

Proposed Workshops (titles to be confirmed) Delegates will have the opportunity to attend two out of the four workshops and will be invited to sign up on the day.
1. Jane Gaze, freelance artist and outreach. Showcases her experience of partnership projects where archives, artists and others work together to provide educational experiences for children.
2. Sarah Chapman, Education and Outreach Officer, Scottish Borders Archive and Local History Centre Showcase their work using new technologies eg. blogs.
3. Margaret McBryde, NAS Education Officer My experience of using GLOW Meet to link up with schools across Scotland
4. Douglas Roberts, Education and Drama Consultant Douglas Roberts is an Education Consultant, Writer and and Theatre Director based in the Scottish Borders. He has worked at all stages of the education system from early Primary to University and Teacher-training. Douglas specialises in active learning approaches, engaging learners through role-play, investigation and interaction. In this session Douglas will outline the process of developing an interesting education unit for Primary aged children based on NAS court records related to a homicide trial in 1840. The practical approaches and techniques explored in the workshop are ones you can apply to a wide range of archive sources for creating your own educational materials and workshops.
Cost: £40 members of the Society of Archivists; £50 non-members Lunch and refreshments included.
