Aims and Objectives 2008/9

Reflecting the wider aims of the Society of Archivists, we aim in 2008/09 to:

1. Promote, advocate and support the Archives, Conservation and Records Management professions in Wales.
2. Encourage members’ continuing professional and educational development.
3. Contribute to the development of archives and records policy in Wales.
4. Raise awareness of relevant issues relating to Wales within the wider Society.

We aim to achieve this by means of the following Objectives:

1. Communicate and consult regularly and effectively with members.
2. Maintain and improve two-way communication with the wider Society, disseminating information to the Wales region and bringing issues in Wales to the attention of the wider Society.
3. Work in consultation and partnership where appropriate with CyMAL, Archives and Records Council Wales, the Welsh County Archivists Group and the Records Management Society/WERIM.
4. Provide training events on topics of relevance, value and interest to members, either alone, in partnership or at wider Society level as appropriate.
5. Discuss and where necessary respond to initiatives relating to archives and records in Wales.
6. Hold at least 3 and usually 4 business meetings (including AGM), preferably together with a presentation, discussion and / or training event on issues of professional interest.
7. Encourage improved participation in Society activities.
