Region - South West

Welcome to the South West!

The South West Region of the Society of Archivists serves those working in archives, records management and archive conservation in the South West Region of England (Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire) and the Channel Islands.

What we do

We welcome non-members to our meetings and events, as well as members of the Society of Archivists.    We meet four or five times a year, normally in archive repositories around the region.  Meetings provide opportunities to share experiences and see what others working in related fields are doing, and sometimes include a formal training element.  Recent events have included visits to the archives at Downside Abbey and the University of Exeter Special Collections, training on Disaster Planning and caring for photographs and a presentation on MLA SW's new agenda.

We also hold regular mini-conferences, which give us a chance to explore issues in more depth: in recent years these have been held in Jersey and in Somerset.

The region also serves as a link with the Society of Archivists' central organisation, giving us the chance to discuss and influence archival issues nationally.
