South West
Welcome to the South West! The South West Region of the Society of Archivists serves those working in archives, records management and archive conservation in the South West Region of England (Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire) and the Channel Islands. What we doWe meet three or four times a year in archive repositories around the region. Meetings offer the opportunity to share ideas and experiences with colleagues, learn what is happening within the Society and in the wider archival community, and discuss current issues with speakers from other sectors. Recent meetings have been held at Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, High Cross House at Dartington, Devon and Bath Abbey. The region also runs training events: our two most recent events, Conservation for non-conservators, and Archival Standards were very popular and the participants found them most useful. Regional mini-conferences, held every two or three years, give us a chance to explore issues in more depth: our 2008 conference looked at balancing the needs of archive services and their users. The region acts as a link with the Society of Archivists' central organisation, giving us the chance to discuss and influence archival issues nationally. Non-members are welcome to all events.
