14 June 2008

The Northern Region of the Society of Archivists is pleased to invite you to attend its Annual General Meeting, to be held at 1.45 pm on Saturday 14th June 2008 in the Marriot Room at York Central Library.

If you’ve never before attended a meeting of the Northern Region, or have not been to a meeting in some time, then we would love to see you at the AGM. 2008-2009 is an exciting year for the Society and the Northern Region in particular, with this year’s Society Conference being held in York in August. There’s lots to be involved with, and the region is truly the sum of its members!

The meeting will be preceded by a talk by Richard Taylor, Senior Curator of Knowledge and Access at the National Railway Museum York on the new ‘Search Engine’ facility at the museum. He will explain the conception, realisation and operation of the NRM’s new £4m library, archive and information centre that opened in January this year. Find out how the NRM’s vast knowledge collections have been given centre stage in the most-visited English regional museum, how researchers can become an exhibit, and how not to let rejection by the HLF spoil your day. Richard also assures us that his talk is “copiously illustrated and fun for all the family!”
