AGM 2008Notice is hereby given of the Annual General Meeting of the Society of Archivists, as required by Article 30 of the Articles of Association of the Society. The AGM will be held at the University of York at 4pm on Tuesday 26th August 2008.
The Officers of the Society are elected annually. The following officers have indicted their willingness to stand for election at the AGM:
Chair: Peter Emmerson
Honorary Treasurer: Jim Ranahan
Honorary Secretary: Jenny Moran
The post of Vice-Chair is currently vacant. Any other nominations for the Officers of the Society, (who are elected annually from among the members of the Society), including the post of Vice-Chair must be made in writing and must reach the Honorary Secretary not later than three calendar months before the AGM. In the event of more than one nomination for any office, a postal ballot will be held. If there is only one nomination for any office, the nominee will be deemed to have been elected at the AGM. This is set out in Article 54.
The Elected Councillors of the Society are elected for a term of four years, with half of the present elected councillors retiring on a two-yearly basis.
Nominations are invited for two vacancies for the council. Members from all the Society’s groups and regions are encouraged to make nominations, to ensure that all sectors and areas of Society are represented on the Council. If more than 2 nominations are received a postal ballot will be held.
The procedures relating to the Nomination and Rotation of Elected Councillors are set out in Articles 59 to 61 inclusive.
Any nominations for either the Officers or Elected Councillors must be signed by a proposer and seconder, who shall be members of the Society, and by the candidate signifying his/her willingness to stand, and must reach the Honorary Secretary not later than three calendar months before the AGM (i.e. before 26th May 2008).

An Honorary Assistant Secretary, an Honorary Assistant Treasurer and an Honorary Membership Secretary will be chosen from among the elected Councillors at the first meeting of the new Council after the AGM.
