The Abolition of Domestic Rates etc (Scotland) Act 1987 was Mrs Thatcher's Frankenstein creation. Just as in Shelley's original story, the monster went on to destroy its creator. Thatcher's poll tax destroyed her, a destruction that was overdue and widely celebrated. Taking from the poor to give to the rich is the everyday practice of establishment politicians, but to commit the principle so boldly to print in the Abolition of Domestic Rates
etc (Scotland) Act 1987 was a big mistake. We fought her law and we won!"
