Conference 2013: overseas bursary winners announced
'I could not believe my eyes'
Helen Afi Gadzekpo from the National Archives of Ghana and Leen Charles, an archives consultant and City Archivist at Gent, Belgium, for 15 years, are the two winners of overseas bursaries to attend the 2013 ARA Conference in Cardiff in August.
Both ARA overseas members will be funded to attend the whole conference, with travel costs of up to £500.
‘I could not believe my eyes when I opened the mail from John Chambers’ said Helen. ‘The award means I am going to interact with colleagues from all spheres of the profession, from all over the UK and beyond, exchange ideas, learn more and come back home bristling hopefully with more confidence to tackle my varied schedule’.
Leen Charles says: ‘The themes of ethics, civil rights and accountability did attract my attention from the very first moment. I have been working in an Australian private archive where I experienced first hand the many problems and difficulties accompanying archival research into the history and genealogy of the first inhabitants of Australia’.
