Annual Report 2010 published

The Annual Report & Financial Statement of the ARA for the year endingDecember 2010 has been published.

The year was dominated by the formation of the Association in June 2010 following the merger of the Society of Archivists, the National Council on Archives and the Association of Chief Archivists in Local Government.   As well as completing or progressing ‘legacy’ work from the three constituent bodies and defining ARA priorities, Council and members also had to respond to the government’s decision to abolish the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council.

The year saw good progress with the All-Parliamentary Group on Archives and History, a successful Archives Awareness Campaign and the completion of a number of research projects.

There was a slight increase in membership, a pleasing development when many member organisations are seeing a drop. The 2010 conference was much praised and returned a small profit. The Association’s financial reserves are healthy and within Charity Commission guidance.
