  • In partnership with the South-West Region, the Film, Sound & Photography Section (FSPS) of the Archives and Records Association is pleased to announce a day-long workshop on 23rd February 2017, held at Bath Guildhall.

Ownership and Copyright - Understanding how to use your Film Collections will feature presentations by Professor Ronan Deazley (School of Law, Queen’s University Belfast), Victoria Stobo (Postgraduate Researcher, University of Glasgow) and Claire Skinner (Principal Archivist, Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre) on the subject of orphan works, copyright duration and risk management in relation to archival film.

Widely known for his scholarship on copyright history, law and cultural heritage, Professor Deazley’s research has been cited by the Australian High Court, the New York Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court. His insight on how best the archive sector can understand the film in their collections and in particular, how it can be used to support online access, will be complimented by postgraduate Victoria Stobo who will discuss further what the term ‘orphan work’ means and how archives can work around the limitations of unknown ownership.

This event is for archivists interested in the rights and ownership of film collections. The aim is to inspire as much as to educate, and archivists of all levels and experience should find something rewarding from its content.
