    Practical OAIS Digital Preservation One-Day Workshop

     

    Wednesday 25th February 2015 – 10am-4pm

    This event is free to attend and is for ARA members only.  
    Places are limited to 30 delegates and you will need to register your interest here.
     
     
    This event is part of the Preservica and ARA Practical Digital Preservation 2015
    workshops and webinars initiative.
     
    Target Audience:
    Digital Preservation practitioners : Archivists, Collection Managers and Records Managers
     
    Programme aims/outcome:
    This one-day workshop is an in-depth practical training in the key concepts and processes of Digital Preservation reinforced by demonstrations of the complete OAIS (Open Archival Information Systems) lifecycle – ingest, data management, storage, preservation, administration and access.
      

    The aim is to move beyond Digital Preservation acronyms and theory to give attendees a fuller appreciation of the practical workflows, processes and considerations of real-world usage.

    Modules will include information on:

    • Background & Theory (what makes up SIPs, DIPs, AIPs, what does PDI mean?)
    • Metadata (types of metadata, what is really needed, how to manage it)
    • Characterisation (what is it?, what does it provide?, types of fixity)
    • Migration/Normalisation (differences, using at scale)
    • Access and Control
    • Practical Requirements
    Speakers: 
    An introduction by John Chambers, ARA Chief Executive followed by a presentation by Preservica representatives which includes experienced Digital Preservation consultants.
