ARA Northern region Conference on Marketing and Fundraising
King's Manor, York, Friday 29th June 2012.
If there are two things you need in life, it's luck and money. With central funding streams an ever decreasing resource, Archives are regularly exploring alternate funding sources - but what ideas are worth investigating and can we learn anything from other heritage and cultural sectors? Fundraising doesn't work alone - Archives are having to look at themselves and how they present themselves. As many archives become more commercially minded, Archivists are increasingly having to adopt commercial attitudes to issues such as branding and marketing.
But where can you look? What other funding streams are there to look for? And how easy are they to tap into? How do you market your service?
This special one day event in York, costing only £2, will showcase a variety of fund-raising ideas including, sponsorship, crowdfunding, partnerships with business and advice directly from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The event will also feature sessions on marketing our services.
Book your place now by email elizabeth.baker@eastriding.gov.uk.
The speakers on the day will be:
Miriam Silverman, UK Content Manager, Ancestry.co.uk - Online Genealogy: Opportunities for Archives
Marie Owens, ARA Head of Public Affairs - Archives: how to look good, sound good and make people listen
Ned Potter, Academic Liaison Librarian, University of York - Marketing old stuff with new tools
Louise Ray, Programme Manager (Development Advice), TNA - Developing fundraising strategies: doing the research and ignoring the myths
Adam Lopardo - Show me the money - An introduction to private sector income
Adam Lopardo - An Introduction to Crowdfunding
The day will also include the ARA Northern Region AGM and a discussion lead by Caroline Williams on the new ARA Competency Framework.
Places are limited, and after last year's very successful 'Northern Exposure: Archives and the Media' event, the day is being offered for just £2.
