Registration Scheme - FAQ'sWhat is Registration? The Society maintains a Register of archive professionals who have demonstrated both aptitude and development after qualification. While admission to the register used to be based on the time you had worked after qualification, it is now through the Registration Scheme. Here you show you have experience in key areas over a minimum period of three years following qualification, and have the support of a Registered referee/mentor. Why should I want to Register?Registration means that you are recognised among leading professionals in your field of work. It will encourage employers and others to recognise the variety of skills that you have. It also provides a good framework for CPD in the first years after qualification, which can benefit any individual as well as any career. Is this just about going on courses?Receiving formal training is an important part of professional development, but it is not the whole of it! Special achievements at work, study or research projects, and professional contribution are other important parts of your development. All of these are recognised by the Registration Scheme, using a credits system. What does Registration cost?Currently the assessment fee is £50 - see the Guidance Notes for full details. Enrolment on the scheme is free of charge. Where can I get more details? All the information you need, including blank forms, should be in the official Guidance Notes for the scheme. If you have any questions, contact the Registrar, Sarah Wickham: University Records Manager,
I need help or advice! There is a support group for those on the scheme and their website will tell you more. There is a similar group run for mentors on the scheme, e-mail Libby Adams for details at regschemementors@archives.org.uk. I want to ask a question...If you have a question that has not been answered either in the introduction to the Registration Scheme or in the more detailed Guidance Notes - please use the get in touch link below and we will do our best to answer.
