What has 2013 brought to the Information & Records Management world?
Claire Johnston, Chair of IRMS-GB, has announced an event to be held in Aberdeen.
The Scotland Group of the Information and Records Management Society-GB (IRMS-GB) meeting will be on 11 June 2013 in Aberdeen's Robert Gordon University. The theme will be 'New skills, new perspectives and new networks: what 2013 has brought to the Information & Records Management world'
In 2013 so far we have the Public Records (Scotland) Act 2011 activated, a Local Government Association records and information management 'knowledge hub' for Scotland up and running and next month the Information & Records Management Society-GB conference will provide insights into new professional developments.
The meeting in June is a chance to learn about all these developments (and maybe a few more) that enhance your skills, give you new perspectives and contribute to advancing Information & Records Management work in Scotland.
A detailed programme will follow early in May.
National Library of Scotland to hire a Wikipedian
The National Library of Scotland plans to provide more access to its archives with the help of Wikipedia.
The succesfull candidate will be expected to lead efforts to see more of the organisation's collections featured on the Wikipedia site, which has about 470 million users a month.
It is hoped the Wikipedian will help staff, regular researchers and members of the public using the library's facilities to add their own content to the online encyclopaedia, which was launched 12 years ago.
A key aim of the venture, which is being run as a pilot project for four months, is improving understanding and knowledge of Scotland's history.

Diageo invests £1.5m to expand brand archives
The Diageo Archive, situated at the company's Technical Centre at Menstrie in Clackmannanshire, Scotland, is to be extended and redeveloped with a new storage facility, reception, and library area for visitors.
The raft of new brand acquisitions made by Diageo in the last year are expected to put a strain on the group's archive facility in its current state. It's expected memorabilia from new brands Ypioca cachaca, Vodka Hanoi, Mey Icki, and those Scotch whiskies acquired through the 53.4% buyout of United Spirits, will join the archives in due course.
