Never Work with Children and Archives?: Engaging with Children and Family Audiences

ARA Northern training day

Wednesday 7th September 2016, 10.30am – 4pm

York Explore, Library Square, York

The popular ARA Northern region summer mini-conference will be returning to York on Wednesday 7th September, costing just £1 for ARA members.

Children and family audiences are not always obvious archives users, but increasingly archivists and other professionals are developing events and initiatives to help engage the youngest members of our communities with our collections and their heritage.

The day will feature case studies from services who have successfully found ways to work with families and children. We'll be looking at everything from developing an activity plan to evaluating family activities, including a wide range of informal learning opportunities and children's events. The event will encourage participants to think about our collections in new ways - 'outside their boxes' and how they can be used to engage with our younger users.  The afternoon will include a short workshop where everyone will get the chance to think how commonly held archives can be used in family learning events by developing a short activity or idea to implement in their own environment.
